Did you know...

According to Autism Speaks, more than half of young adults with autism remain unemployed and unenrolled in higher education in the two years after high school. This is a lower rate than that of young adults in other disability categories.

And that…

Nearly half of 25-year-olds with autism have never held a paying job.

Mind Shift functions to change this and looks to a brighter future where all are valued for their different ways of thinking.

Our Amazing Talent

By Alexa Gorres, Employment Team Member

In the month of April, the Twin Cities Employment Services Team participated in two fairs. One that took place was held by Disability:IN Minnesota with their 2022 INclusive Career Fair. At this career fair, the Twin Cities ES Team had the chance to present Mind Shift to all the business participants and the individuals with differing abilities who were in attendance.  This career fair took place virtually, there were three individuals who met one-on-one with our ES Team. Of those three, one took interest and proceeded to move forward with Mind Shift.

The other fair was a resource fair for individuals who are transition students of all differing abilities, held by Northwest Hennepin Community College. Our Twin Cities ES Team had the chance to talk to many individuals and their families.

There were nine individuals/families who took interest, and two have proceeded with Mind Shift. While participating in this resource fair, our Twin Cities ES Team created three new community partners (MICC, Hennepin Technical College, and SPARK). The three individuals who proceeded with Mind Shift are currently waiting to take part in the next ESTA training.

“I have been an independent cabi stylist for less than a year. The cabi company and my fellow stylists are very giving. The company’s heart of cabi foundationpositively changes lives of women and children at home and around the world.  I chose to raise money for Mind Shift as I have been blessed to have experienced several wonderful people who are on the Autism spectrum.  Mind Shift has made a difference in the life of one of my client’s children. I am passionate about supporting organizations that make a difference.”
